As Roma makes a dramatic UEFA champions league come back

Roma surprises Barcelona by making a remarkable come back in the second-leg of the UEFA champions league history on Tuesday night as they converted a 4-1 deficit against the Barcelona side to reach the semi-finals on away goals difference. Their first time to reach the semi-finals of the competition since 1984, they shocked the Barcelona team who were confident with their 4-1 win at the first-leg of the competition.

The Barcelona team were the favorites to progress after a 4-1 first-leg win, but fell short of their game to the brilliant Roma’s side who were at the top of their game showing an extraordinary display at their home field.

Edin Džeko strucked earlier at six minutes of the game to give the host team hope before the talismanic Daniele De Rossi then converted his first UEFA Champions League penalty to set the scene for defender Kostas Manolas who scored the final third goal by heading in at the near post with eight minutes remaining.

Roma became only the third team in UEFA Champions League history to converts a first-leg defeat of three goals down or more after Deportivo La Coruna against AC Milan in 2004 and Barcelona against Paris St-Germain last season.

It has taken Roma 34 years to reach this stage of the competition, Since after they were beaten by Liverpool in a tensed penalties shoot out in the final match of 1983-1984 season.

It was indeed a night of celebration for the host team and their fans at Stadio Olympico Stadium last night. There were tears from those watching from the stands and entire coaching crew, What looks impossible at the first minute of the game now brought the crowd, the coaching staffs and the Roma substitutes on to the pitch to celebrate with the players at the final whistle of the match.
